The Seattle Chess Club Mission

The Seattle Chess Club Mission

Ever since the Seattle Chess Club (SCC) was founded in 1879, it has been a prominent feature on the vibrant cultural landscape of the Pacific Northwest. The purpose of the SCC has been, and will remain, to provide an intellectually stimulating recreational activity to the citizens of our region. Children, adults, and seniors are all equals over the sixty-four squares of the chessboard. They draw alike the many positive benefits to be derived from the pursuit of this challenging game: mental acuity, sportsmanship, and social interaction in an egalitarian atmosphere. Played at the competitive level, the game reaches the level of art for some and, certainly, fun for all. The SCC will continue its tradition of casual and sanctioned U. S. Chess Federation-rated play, community outreach, international competition with our Canadian friends,Grandmaster appearances, and simultaneous and blindfold exhibitions.
